Why I now use archival canvas mounted on Dibond permanent board for my paintings

Traditionally, oil paintings have been painted on linen canvas stretched on a wooden frame, sized with rabbit skin glue, and primed with white lead. But there are a few drawbacks with this traditional material. Firstly, it is relatively fragile and can easily be punctured or dented. Secondly, it is flexible, and as it flexes, the paint layers adhered to it flex as well leading to cracking over time. Thirdly, it is dimensionally unstable and can change size, and therefore tension, dramatically with changes in temperature and humidity which, again, subjects the paint layers to mechanical stresses that eventually lead to […]

Upgraded website pics

I have been really concerned about the quality of pics that I have been able to post on this website, especially those pics that relate to my paintings. My concern was that I want to display my paintings well, especially because I am looking to sell paintings “online.” Hours were spent trying to get good results off my iPhone, including trying different camera apps, watching all kinds of instructional videos and a lot of trying to work things out. Portable Spray Booth for Artists

It seems that a lot of artists need a portable spray booth. Those who spray or paint varnishes on their paintings usually have issues with fumes and also with wind blowing the spray around. I would like to share my solution with you which is cost efficient and successful! Firstly, I purchased a cheap one-man fishing tent off tradeMe (the New Zealand version of eBay). The tent is designed to provide seated shelter for a fisherman. It is pegged to the ground on four corners and folds up really small for transport or storage. There is enough depth in the

Glass palette for paint mixing. A triumph!

My new glass palette works extremely well! My plan is to put together a Youtube video with details of how I made this pallet and the materials used. I am thrilled with how it works for paint mixing and for cleaning up afterwards! I had been working with a glass palette that I made a couple of years ago which served me well but created some frustrations. The major issue was handling the paint that I scrapped off after each session. It was extremely easy to get the paint off the surface but I had issues with trying to remove
